“I think it’s in”

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I wanted to start your week off with a funny story that happened to me this weekend while on the course. I was in Hamilton for a wedding and went to play a round Saturday with my brother and brother in law.

So the funny story starts at the 4th hole. It was a 169 yard par 3. I hit a smooth knock down 4 hybrid (remember my previous blog – hybrids are versatile) and it looked really good tracking for the pin, took a couple of bounces and disappeared. The thre of us stop and look at each other and my brother in law say’s “I think it’s in – with a damn hybrid” My response “No can’t be buy hey yea it’s gone – I think it’s in.” We proceed to high five, take pictures/video, hoot and holler. My mind is racing thinking I can’t wait to blog about this one. I started messaging my wife and drive to the hole. Now as we get to the green there is one ball about 12 feet from the pin. My heart drops to my stomach. But I think wait…maybe it’s my brothers second shot I had been to excited to watch him hit. So I proceed to walk on the green (no putter of course) and look down to see that in fact it was my ball. Not even close to the hole not even a sniff. The guys on the next tee say “What the heck were you high fiveing for? So again my heart drops to my stomach as my playing partners get a good laugh at my expense. I would lie if I said that 4th hole didn’t affect me for at least the next 5. I ended up having a good round and hat lots of laughs the whole way around.

I hope you had a chuckle from my story. Let me know your hole in one or hole in one miss’s moments. Thanks for reading. Enjoy your Golf.

PS. Congrats to Canadian Graeme DeLaet who finished tied for 4th at this weekends PGA Tour event, The Zurich Classic at TPC Louisiana.

“To Belly or Not to Belly”

I played my first round of the year last week and shot a 76. To be honest I was quite happy with that. My ball striking and drives were good but my putting was just a little short of horrible. I didn’t 3 putt but unfortunately did not make anything outside 4 feet. It was on the 16th hole when my playing partners said “Man you hit so good and straight, if only you could putt” My other playing partner (my brother) then said why don’t you try a BELLY putter.

So that got me thinking. “To belly or not to belly” If you watch the PGA tour you will notice several players using a belly or long putter. You may also know that the USGA and R&A are studying the use of these putters because of the anhoring of the putter against the body which of course is unlike traditional putters. Therefore these putters may be banned from tournament play.

My take is that if helps recreational golfers have more fun and putt better than why not. In the last couple of days I have tried a belly in the golf shop and haven’t decided if I may take it on the course. I personally don’t like the feel of it against my body but then again I need to make some more putts.

Let me know of your experiences with a belly putter. Positive or negative and if you have made the switch. Continue reading

What’s In Your Bag ?

Ever since I took up the game of golf I have been kind of a club junkie, always researching new weapons to add to my arsenal. Over the weekend I was having a conversation about set make-ups and how most manucacturers’ stock sets are now 4 – UW (Utility Wedge). The individual I was speaking with asked why no 3 iron? With the popularity of hybrids, 3 irons have become a thing of the past. Hybrids are easier to hit, more forgiving and longer.

“BUBBA” & Custom Fitting

What a finish on Sunday! As usual the back 9 at Sunday’s Master’s made for amazing drama. Congratulations to Bubba Watson the 2012 Champion. Even though I picked Lee Westwood for the win and for a couple of rounds it looked like I was going to be right, Bubba was always a player I was rooting for. It seemed it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
